The Sobey Foundation Makes Pledge to Match Funds Raised in Province-Wide Initiative

Represenatitives from Sobey's and the Daffodil Place Campaign launched the fundraising campaign on November 12, 2008.
St. John’s, NL November 12, 2008 Sobeys Atlantic and The Sobey Foundation today announced a week-long fundraising campaign supporting Daffodil Place.
From November 14 to November 20, 2008 customers who shop at any Sobeys, Price Chopper or Foodland store throughout Newfoundland and Labrador are invited to purchase a specially-designed paper daffodil for $2 or a bouquet of paper daffodils for $5. The Sobey Foundation will match every dollar raised through customer donations, up to $75,000, with a goal to raise a minimum campaign total of $150,000. All funds raised will be donated to Daffodil Place.
“The Sobey Foundation in partnership with Sobeys, Price Chopper and Foodland stores throughout Newfoundland and Labrador is honoured to support the Canadian Cancer Society in the creation of such an important project as Daffodil Place,” said David Sobey, Chair, The Sobey Foundation and Chair Emeritus, Sobeys Inc. “Together with our employees and customers, we are committed to supporting communities and especially proud to be part of a program that is destined to have a positive impact on the lives of so many people throughout the province.”
Alan Doyle, Daffodil Place Cabinet Member commended the partnership saying, “The support from Sobeys Atlantic and The Sobey Foundation is a tremendous help to the campaign. The partnership will aid Daffodil Place in its mission to reduce the financial burden and emotional stress that can accompany a cancer diagnosis for persons living outside the St. John’s area.”
During the week-long fundraising campaign, customers who make a donation to Daffodil Place will also be eligible to enter a draw for one of two grand prizes. Customers will receive one contest ballot when donating a single $2 paper daffodil or three ballots when purchasing a $5 bouquet of paper daffodils at any Sobeys, Price Chopper or Foodland store.
