(St. John’s, NL) – Today, Alan Doyle of the Daffodil Place Cabinet commended the efforts of the Lilies for Lillie group, who in partnership with Scotiabank, raised $100,000 for Daffodil Place. Doyle spoke at an event where the Lilies for Lillie committee along with officials from Scotiabank presented the gift after a well executed campaign.

“This is the crowning achievement for our small committee,” said Gord Delaney, whose mother passed away in November 2000 of Leukemia. Delaney founded Lilies for Lillie to preserve his mother’s memory and help others fighting cancer. “What began five years ago as a way to honour a special person has turned into a well recognized campaign that will help benefit people for years to come,” he added.

Delaney commented that the committee was overwhelmed by the level of support received for the lapel pin campaign which Scotiabank promoted in banks across Newfoundland and Labrador. Representing Scotiabank was Helen Quinlan-Hainse, District Vice-President. She said, “Scotiabank is dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. We joined with Lilies for Lillie to help improve the lives of people living with cancer.”

Members of the Lilies for Lillie committee were also recognized by Delaney for their dedication saying, “These people have given so much to this campaign. They are incredible individuals and friends and I owe the successes of the last five years to them.”

Alan Doyle expressed his gratitude to the committee and partner Scotiabank for their support saying, “Everyone here should be very proud of the work they have done in the name of our province’s cancer patients. I am certain that Lillie Delaney would be very proud to know that her legacy will live on through Daffodil Place.

A project of the Canadian Cancer Society Newfoundland and Labrador Division, Daffodil Place is scheduled to open in early 2009. The 24-suite facility will provide accommodations for those who must travel to St. John’s for cancer treatment and will offer the comforts of home that will help patients on the road to recovery.
